What do you think is a good age gap to give your kids?

I think 3 years or so is a good age but my husband thinks 1 to 2 years is good because if they are closer in age, they will have a better relationship with one another. We don’t have any kids yet, but I have a lot of nieces and nephews and I have seen them all go through their terrible twos. I would think raising a toddler, and then having a newborn baby would be kind of hard to handle, on the other hand, I know parenting in itself is not easy, no matter what age the child is. So my question is: Do you think my husband is right in saying if the kids are closer in age, they will be closer to each other? My sister and I are 3 years apart and we used to fight a lot when we were kids, but now (20 years later) we get along! My sister’s kids are 2 years apart and they are very close, her older child is a girl, and younger child is a boy. They fight on occasions but mostly are very protective towards one another.

I think the age gap is not what matters. What does matter is how the parents deal with the each child according to their age (level of development) and never compare them. Remember, you can’t force relationship or love to happen. But you can tell kids the behavior expected of them. Ex. no fighting, no hitting, speak kindly to one another. But here a tips while deciding an age gap think of the needs of each child. Ex. 2 years old is walking, learning how to talk, potty training, and in the “Terrible 2s” so the parents should ask themselves “Can fulfill the needs of a 2 years old and a newborn?”
