How do you keep your kids clothes bright and stain free?

My son is only 4 months old, but his clothes are getting stained from spit up. I don’t really want to keep a bib on him all day. How do you get spit up stains out, if possible? Or how can I prevent the spit up from staining? Also after just one or two washes the clothes seem to get dingy looking and just not as bright, is there a way to prevent this? We don’t have city water and our water has a lot iron.
He only eats breastmilk, lol. It leaves a yellowish stain.
I wish we had a water softner but we can’t afford one right now.

I have well water with heavy iron too. I keep our clothes bright and looking new.

Do you have a water softener system? That is the most important part. We use Morton’s Softener Salt in the green bag. That is made for heavy iron in the water.

I always separate colors and lights. I also use oxyi-clean in every load. For whites I use bleach and a fabric softener by Downy made specifically for whites.

As for stains just squirt some Shout on them. It’ll help keep the stain from setting in.

***EDIT*** Try running a load with no clothes just CLR every 2 weeks. It’ll help keep your washer rust free. It may help your dingy clothes situation too. The directions to do this are right on the bottle.
